You’re likely familiar with braces, as these orthodontics have been around for decades and help address more severe cases of malocclusion. At Riverside Dental Group, our orthodontists use them to help straighten smiles. Braces employ metal brackets and wires to reposition the teeth gently and thoroughly, correcting advanced misalignment to offer better oral health and a straighter smile!
How Braces Work
Your orthodontist will connect metal brackets to the front of your teeth and then connect them with a portion of an arch wire. During periodic visits, we will adjust tension in the wire to shift the teeth into their proper positions. The total treatment time usually takes about two years. This care not only straightens your teeth, but can improve chewing function, bite balance, and make brushing and flossing much simpler. You also avoid complications related to strained jaw joints, such as TMJ disorder or bruxism (teeth grinding).
Esthetic Braces
If you have concerns about the impact of metal braces on your professional appearance, we could discuss Esthetic Braces. These will also use brackets and wires, but made from a clear or gold metal instead of traditional stainless steel! Our team can also discuss another esthetic treatment option, clear Invisalign® aligners.
